Description

This Barista training course is designed to test advanced skills and detailed knowledge of the science behind processes used, expected from a professional Barista (e.g. from someone working as a Barista for 12 months or more, with some management responsibilities).

Successful candidates will have a detailed understanding of their ingredients and of the techniques available to maximise the quality of the drinks made.


NOTE:  Introduction to Coffee, Barista Foundation, and Intermediate Brewing are recommended (but not mandatory) pre-requisite modules.

Holding the Intermediate Barista Certification is a mandatory requirement. All knowledge and skill from these modules will be assumed as being held and may be tested through the practical and/or written assessments.


What you will learn:

  • How to masterfully extract espresso from coffees of various varieties, processing methods and blends
  • How a variety of grinder types can be utilised to produce varying results to suit different applications (using, ZM, K30, Major, and Kony grinders)
  • How to obtain the optimum extraction from coffee of different ages (e.g very fresh, or aged)
  • How changes to the mass to energy ratio affect extraction yield
  • The ability to identify issues with the extraction techniques of others (e.g. staff training) 
  • The components of milk and its production process
  • The ability to pour consistently excellent latte art
  • The ability to train others to prepare milk for espresso beverages
  • How to clean and replace grinder burrs, and complete basic maintenance on an espresso machine
  • How to evaluate the effectiveness and suitability of various water filtration systems
  • How to plan the optimum layout of a cafe
  • How to prepare and implement a food safety plan, and how to train staff in hygienic practices
  • How to prepare and implement a customer service policy
  • How to manage the finances, stock, and staff of a cafe

Nuovo Simonelli (Black Eagle), La Marzocco Linea (MP), Wega (Urban, Concept, Polaris, and Atlas) espresso machines, along with Mazzer (ZM, Major, and Kony) and Mahlkonig (K30) grinders, are used in this course.

Refund & Cancellation Policy

Barista Fundamentals Course - Cancellation & Rescheduling:

Barista Fundamentals courses may be cancelled or rescheduled as per the following:

Refunds (less a $20 fee to cover bank & booking site fees) are available with a minimum of 7 days notice.

Minimum 48 hours notice - No rescheduling fee.  ($50 cancellation fee if less than 48 hours notice.)

Less than 48 hours notice - $50 rescheduling fee.  (No cancellations available with less than 48 hours notice.)


SCA Coffee Skills Program Courses - Cancellation & Rescheduling:

SCA CSP Courses courses may be cancelled or rescheduled as per the following:

Cancellation fees:

Course fees will be refunded (less a $20 fee to cover bank & booking site fees) if training is cancelled at least 14 days prior to course commencement.

A $150 cancellation fee is deducted from refunds for cancellations received less than 14 days prior to course commencement.

No cancellation is available with less than 2 business days’ notice, however you may reschedule with applicable rescheduling fees.


Reschedule Fees:

No fee is applicable if rescheduling is requested at least 14 days prior to course commencement.

A $150 rescheduling fee is applicable if rescheduling is requested less than 14 days prior to course commencement
